About the data
Tracks is a field guide built from open biodiversity science. Every species in it was photographed and verified by someone who found it.
iNaturalist observations
Species identity, photographs, taxonomy and observation counts come from iNaturalist’s research-grade dataset, with sightings contributed and verified by a global community of naturalists, shared under Creative Commons licensing. Every species page links back to its iNaturalist taxon page for the full record, range maps and community photos.
Wikipedia summaries
The descriptive text, ranges and conservation context were processed from Wikipedia, matched to each taxon so a species page can carry a concise summary and link out to the full encyclopedia article. Where a summary is not available, the page falls back to a factual description derived from the underlying dataset.
